Zynga may not realize it but they never turned off the ice counter for the Family Ice Event which ended on August 22nd. Because of this, Team Spockholm picked up their Ice Leaderboard community database and added some security measures to keep the amateur hackers at bay (yes Team Spockholm know who you are!). Follow the instructions below to submit your family data and check out the current Ice Leaderboard. This is mainly for fun but could be useful if there is another Family Ice Event in the future.
1. In order to submit results to the database, you will need to set up your own account. Use the link below to do that.
2. To register, you will need to connect with your Facebook account. Simply click the Facebook “Log In” button.
3. Like with all applications, you must give it permission to access your basic information.
4. Now select a password that will only be needed when running the Ice Event script. Try to use one that you aren’t using anywhere else. Enter the password of your choice and click on the “Register” button.
5. If everything goes smoothly your account will be activated.
6. Now go to Mafia Wars and type any part of Ice Event Tracker into the search area of the Spockholm Mafia Toolbar and click on it.
7. You will be promoted for the password you selected when you registered your account. Type it in and click on the “Submit data” button.
8. Your family ice count will be sent to the database and the results displayed.
To view the Top 100 results which are only what the community makes them, use the link below. There are already 238 registered families. The number of ices shown are from the start of the Let The Ices Begin Event and are refreshed when a family member submits new data (which is indicated by the “Age” column).
Zynga shouldn’t rely on the script writers or the community to provide a decent leaderboard when they have ice events. There is a Family Battle Leaderboard in the game that contains all 15,269 registered families in Mafia Wars and there is no reason they couldn’t do the same for the next ice event. The Family Battle Leaderboards display the Top 10 Families and your own if you aren’t in the Top 10. There is also a scrolling feature so you can view all families if you so desire. If Zynga can’t figure it out how to apply this functionality to the next Ice Leaderboard then Team Spockholm along with the help of the community will be ready!
